In Jerry and the Lion, the Lion is described by the radio bulletin as ferocious and dangerous. However, he's actually quite friendly, gentle, and even timid, having no means to bring any fear or harm to everyone, even to a mouse likes Jerry. He really just wants to return home to Africa, as he cannot stand the circus life, as it is making him a nervous wreck. He considers Jerry a true friend, going far to protect him from Tom, and even sharing a tearful farewell together with the mouse after being successfully taken home via ship.
